Femi Falana fires back at Okonjo-Iweala, says she left “appalling record”

A senior lawyer, Femi Falana, has lashed back at former finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala,‎ saying Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala has a habit of attacking critics of her “appalling records”.
In a statement on Wednesday, Mr. Falana said the ex-minister resorted to “scurrilous attacks” on him for requesting the International Criminal Court to investigate crimes against humanity committed by past public officers.

RIVER STATE: Supreme Court upholds Nyesom Wike’s election as Rivers Governor

The Supreme Court judgement which returned Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, as the duly elected governor of the state, came after a legal battle which highlighted several electoral matters.
The ruling resulted from three appeals by Mr. Wike, his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, and the Independent National Electoral Commission.
They all challenged the decision of the Rivers State tribunal to nullify Mr. Wike’s election, and the decision of the Court of Appeal, to uphold the tribunal’s judgement.
Although the seven-member panel of judges said it would give reasons for the ruling on February 12, respective lawyers vigorously laid out their cases.

Bello sworn in as 4th Kogi civilian governor

The new Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Adoza Bello, on Wednesday, declared his stands against corruption and impunity, said he was in a hurry to develop the state.
Bello stated this today, after he was administered the oath of office and oath of allegiance as the 4th civilian governor of the state by the State Chief Judge, Justice Nasir Ajanah.

Chelsea midfielder Ramires joins Jiangsu Suning for fee in excess of £20m

The Chelsea midfielder Ramires has joined China’s Jiangsu Suning for an initial fee of £20m which could eventually rise to £25m.
Ramires, an £18m signing from Benfica in 2010, has not started a Premier League match under the interim stewardship of Guus Hiddink and was not included among the substitutes for the draw with Everton and Sunday’s win at Arsenal.
The Brazilian signed a four-year contract at Stamford Bridge in October but has slipped down the pecking order.

Osun appoints billionaire oil baron, Folorunso Alakija, Chancellor of Osun state University


The Governor of the State of Osun, Rauf Aregbesola, has appointed the third richest woman of African descent in the world, Folorunso Alakija, as Chancellor of the Osun State University, Osogbo.
The governor, in a statement by his spokesperson, Semiu Okanlawon, said p‎ursuant to the provisions of clause 5(8) of the first schedule to the Osun State University (Establishment) Law, 2006, Mr. Aregbesola is privileged to appointment Mrs. Alakija‎ as the Chancellor of the University. ‎
The appointment, which according to the statement, takes immediate effect will be for a period of five years.‎

CBN reintroduces COT as current account maintenance fee

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has indirectly reintroduced Commission on Turnover (CoT) fee as Current Account Maintenance (CAM) Fee. Recall that the CBN in 2013 commenced phased reduction of CoT which terminated with zero CoT charge this year. But in a circular to banks last week signed by Director, Financial Policy & Regulation Department,  Mr. Kevin Amugo,  the CBN replaced the CoT with CAT but subject to maximum of N1 per N1000 (Mille).

FG Pegs price of kerosene at N83 per litre to ends subsidy.

The Federal Government, weekend, hiked the price of Household Kerosene (HHK) to N83 per litre from N50 per litre, thereby, officially ending subsidy on the product.
The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, PPPRA , in its product pricing template released, weekend, however, stated that the N83 per litre price applies only to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), meaning that other petrol stations and dealers can sell higher than the stipulated amount.
